Common Questions
How do I invite family members to my tree?
Open the app, go to the Tree tab, tap the tree name at the top, and choose Invite. You'll get a shareable invite code. Family members can enter that code when they create their account, or from the tree switcher.
How do I add a photo to a person?
Open a person's profile, scroll to Photos, and tap the + button. You can pick from your photo library or take a new photo with the camera.
Can one photo belong to more than one person?
Yes. Right after you add a photo, you'll see a Tag people button that lets you mark up to 7 additional family members who are in the picture. The photo then appears in every tagged person's gallery — you only upload it once. Each photo has one primary subject (whoever's profile you added it from) plus any co-subjects you tag; the primary's profile-picture setting is unaffected by tagging.
To edit the tags on an existing photo, open it in the Photos tab, review the subject chips in the lightbox, and tap Edit tags. You can also navigate to any tagged person by tapping their chip.
How do Voice Memories work?
Voice Memories let you record a short audio story — a grandparent's recipe, how your parents met, the story behind a name — and attach it to anyone in your tree. Open a person's profile, scroll to Voice Memories, and tap Add Memory. You can record in the app (up to 10 minutes) or upload an existing audio file from your device.
Each memory is automatically transcribed in the background (usually within a minute), so you'll get a searchable text version alongside the audio. You can open any memory to play, pause, and scrub through the recording, and you can edit the transcript if a word comes out wrong.
The first time you record in a session, you'll be asked to confirm you have permission from everyone whose voice is on the recording. Please take that prompt seriously — Voice Memories is for stories your family has agreed to preserve.
Can one memory belong to more than one person?
Yes. After you save a recording, you'll see a Tag people button that opens a picker where you can add up to 7 additional family members ("how Mom and Dad met," the cousins at Lake Tahoe, a grandparent reminiscing about their siblings). The recording appears in every tagged person's Voice Memories gallery — you only record it once.
Each memory has one primary person — whichever profile you were on when you tapped Add Memory — and any number of co-subjects. You can change the co-subject list later from the memory's detail page by tapping Edit tags. The primary stays put.
The transcript "corrected" a family name. How do I fix it?
Open the memory, tap Edit, fix the word, and tap Save. The audio itself is never changed — only the transcript. If you're consistently seeing a family name (Hawaiian, Filipino, Polish, any heritage spelling) get rewritten to a more common English word, please let us know so we can tune the cleanup step.
Can I delete a Voice Memory?
Yes. Open the memory and tap the trash icon. Both the audio file and the transcript are deleted immediately. Anyone on the tree who already listened to it won't be able to play it again.
What is Child Mode?
Child Mode is a simple guardrail for when kids or grandkids are using the app — it hides birthday reminder toggles and collapses a few of the more technical Settings sections so a curious tap can't accidentally change things. Turn it on in Settings → Child Mode. You'll set a 4-digit PIN, which is required to turn Child Mode back off.
Child Mode is a UX guardrail, not a security lock. It's designed to stop a toddler mashing buttons, not an adult with device access. If you forget the PIN, email us and we'll walk you through clearing it (typically by reinstalling the app on that device).
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Settings, and tap Delete my account. Confirm with your password. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Can I export my family tree?
Yes. Go to Settings → Export GEDCOM. The file follows the standard GEDCOM format and can be imported into most other genealogy software.
Birthday reminders aren't showing up in my calendar
Make sure you've granted the app Calendar or Reminders permission in your device settings. If your account is iCloud- or Exchange-based and the app can't create its own calendar, events will be added to your default writable calendar instead.
Is my family tree private?
Yes. Your tree is only visible to people you invite. We don't share, sell, or advertise against your data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
